Q: How did you get introduced to astrology?

I am a self-taught astrologer; I picked up my trade in the 70’s. I was always interested in people’s birthdays from when I was in high school and never knew why. In my 20’s I came to astrology because my life was in turmoil and I wanted answers and understanding of why my life was so difficult and what my possible future would be. The public library was close by so I wandered over and picked up Joan Quigley’s book Astrology for Adults and also Parker’s Astrology by Julia and Derek Parker. I was transfixed from that point forward teaching myself the meaning of different planets in different signs. I especially loved the Parker’s book because it had lavish graphics and was printed on shiny paper.

Q: Do you have any advice on how to study astrology?

The best way to study is to read a lot of books and attend lectures and conferences and take classes. You can take classes either online or in-person; it is an efficient and structured way to learn your craft. Don’t be afraid of homework! It will reinforce your knowledge and also provide an important visual background for your astrological studies. After you study a bit, try looking at the charts of family members and friends. They are people you know best so looking at their charts will solidify the meanings of the planets, signs and houses.

Q: Can you give us a preview of your presentation?

My lecture is Planetary Stations That Change Your Life.

Astrology is all about life experience. When planets change motion by secondary progression, life-changing events are often experienced in a unique and intense fashion. Much depends on the strength of the natal planet that is stationing by progression or being affected by a transiting station. One of the strongest impacts on human experience is when Venus stations retrograde. Often there is a disappointment or setback in a relationship that changes the life direction. In my presentation I will use current technology to project the key points of my lecture on a screen with graphics and photos where necessary. I also will have handouts that highlight key factors for stationing planet. I like to use charts of notable people but also charts from case studies in my lectures where appropriate.

Q: Do you find much of a difference between in-person readings and remote readings?

I have been asked this question by clients many times! I do 95% of my consultations via telephone or Skype and do not notice a difference. However, I rather like remote consultations because I can concentrate more on the birth chart and less on the social graces required for an in-person session. Also, remote sessions provide pure objectivity on my part for reading the chart without being distracted by the person’s appearance. Every astrologer is different, some would rather have an “in-person” experience but if you offer remote consultations, it widens your client reach. You can enjoy clients from all over the world and learn so much more about different cultures and norms.

SANDRA-LEIGH AT THE MANY FACES OF ASTROLOGY CONFERENCE

Sandra-Leigh is giving a lecture entitled Planetary Stations That Change Your Life. In describing her lecture, she notes:

"When planets change motion by secondary progression, life-changing events are often experienced.  The intensity of the experience is determined by the strength of that planet in the natal chart.  This lecture will cover stations by secondary progression in a natal chart as well as planetary stations that occur by transit.  Sample charts will be used to demonstrate the effects on human experience."

Her lecture will take place on Saturday, 02/18/17.
